1987년에 출간된 양귀자의 소설집이다. 1986년3월부터 1987년8월까지 문예지를 중심으로 발표되었고, 소설의 일부는 중학교 국어교과서에 실리기도 했다. <멀고 아름다운 동네>, <마지막 땅>, <원미동 시인>, <찻집 여자>, <지하생활자>, <한계령>등 연작의 형태로 발표된 11편이 수록되어 있다.  작가는 가난하고 공교육을 많이 받지 못해 배제당하는 사람들의 삶을 따스하고 날카로우며 섬세한 시각으로 그려내고 있다.

This collection of short stories by Yang Gui-ja was published in 1987. The stories in the collection had originally been published in literary magazines between March 1986 and August 1987, and some were included in middle school textbooks. This collection has 11 of Yang’s stories, including “A Distant and Beautiful Place,” “The Last Place,” “The Wonmidong Poet,” “The Coffeeshop Woman,” “Underground Dweller,” and “Hangyeryeong Pass.” This collection is a heartfelt, sensitive, and poignant depiction of people who are marginalized and cast out by the society.
