Plot

Nu-hye, once a hero of the people, is treated as a corrupted enemy of the people in the Geoje prison camp and is severely abused. One day, he hangs himself on the barbed wire fence surrounding the prison camp, and Dong-ho, who reads Nu-hye's will, is reborn.

This is a short story by Chang Yong-hak, published in the July issue of Hyundae Munhak in 1955. With a unique structure in which the fable of a rabbit (which gets trapped in a cave but goes blind and dies as soon as it escapes the cave) and the extreme situation that Nu-hye finds himself in, this story explores the freedom of humans living in modern times.
