1991년에 출간된 김하기의 소설집이다. 표제작을 비롯해 <살아있는 무덤>, <뿌리 내리기>, <노역장 이야기>등 모두 8편의 단편이 수록되어 있다. 작품은 작가의 경험을 토대로 비전향장기좌익수들의 세계를 여러 단편을 통해 그려내고 있다. 작가는 비전향장기좌익수들의 역사의식을 청년 노동자, 시국사범, 대학생 수감자들이 이해하고 수용하는 모습을 핍진한 언어로 드러내고 있다.

Published in 1991, this short story collection by Kim Haki introduces eight of his stories including “Live Grave,” “Putting Your Root Down,” and “A Story of Workhouse.”  His stories are about so-called “unconverted long-term prisoners,” the Northern loyalists imprisoned in South Korea without parole for not renouncing their loyalty to North Korea. His stories also include young laborers and people incarcerated for violating the National Security Act.
