Published in 1970, this satiric poem by Kim Ji-ha is written in the format of pansori and criticizes “five bandits,” or the five enemies of the people: generals, chaebols, national assemblymen, bureaucrats, and government ministers. The title Five Bandits alludes to “the five traitors” who signed the Eulsa Treaty of 1905 and handed over the country to Japan. The poet was jailed for violation of the National Security Act for writing this poem.
