1996년 출간된 전경린의 소설집이다. 표제작을 비롯하여 <꽃들은 모두 어디로 갔나>, <남자의 기원>, <사막의 달>(등단작)등 모두 8편이 수록되어 있다. 정념과 직관에 가까운 통찰로 삶의 비의를 그려온 작가는 이 소설집에서도 여성들의 목소리를 다양하게 담아내고 있다. 특히 한국일보문학상을 수상한 <염소를 모는 여자>의 주인공은 일상에서 벗어나지 못하고 무기력한 상태에서 일탈만을 꿈꾸다가, 자신에게 필요한 것은 일회적인 일탈이 아닌 변혁임을 깨닫게 되고 이를 시도한다.

Published in 1996, this short story collection by Jon Kyongnin introduces eight of her stories including “Where Did All the Flowers Go?” “The Origin of Man,” and “The Desert Moon,” which was her debut story. With intuitive observations and insights into life, the writer presents different voices and lives of women. She received the Hankook Ilbo Literary Award for “A Woman Herding a Goat,” in which the main character dreams of an escape from her mundane life only to realize in the end that what she needs is not an escape but a complete overhaul of her life.
