2008년에 출간된 권정생의 동화다. 작품은 아홉마리의 새끼를 돌보던 까투리는 산불이 나자 새끼들을 모두 살려내고 죽은 이야기다. 자칫 무겁고 슬픈 이야기지만 작가는 사랑으로 죽음을 넘은 까투리의 이야기를 감동적으로 그려내었다.

This children’s book by Kwon Jeong-saeng was published in 2008. The main character, a mother pheasant,  sacrifices her life to save all nine of her chicks from a forest fire. Despite the heavy theme of death, the story is a poignant reminder of a mother’s love and sacrifice.
