Plot

The narrator travels too different places rather than staying in one place. He gives a number to each person he meets during his travels and writes to them. One day, he meets “Female Novelist 751” and her dog Wajo. The narrator accepts them as companions and travel together. Meanwhile, no one responds to his letters, including his family. As he meets strangers, the narrator comes to understand others, and decides to finish his journey when even just a single person replies to his letter.

This is a novel by Jang Eun-Jin, published in 2009. It won the 14th Munhakdongne Writers Award. The author conveys the loneliness and desolation of the journey of life through the protagonist who sends letters to the people he meets during his travels. The character's act of sending letters leads to the understanding of others and the will to not give up on life even in loneliness and isolation.
