Chun-ho, who became homeless due to poverty, beats his wife and kicks her out, telling her to bring home money. While looking for a way to earn some money, his wife sells her body to Yi, a rich man in her village. When Chun-ho learns about this, he dresses up his wife even prettier and sends her back to Yi to earn more money.

1935년 1월9일 신춘문예1등으로 당선되어 <조선일보>에 실린 김유정의 단편이다. 이 작품은 식민지 농촌 사회의 구조적 모순과 빈곤 문제를 반어적으로 그려낸 작품으로 평가된다.
