Plot

Ok hui is a six year old girl who lives with her mother. One day, a friend of her deceased father, whom she calls “Uncle,” comes to rent a room at Ok hui's house. Ok hui wants Uncle to be a father, but when her mother and Uncle hear her say this, they feel embarrassed. One day, Ok hui’s mother delivers a letter along with a handkerchief to Uncle through Ok hui, and Uncle leaves their house soon afterward.

This is a short story by Chu Yo Sup, published in the inaugural issue of Jogwang in November 1935. It depicts the love between adults through the eyes of a six year old girl. One of the popular works by the author, this short story is recognized as a masterpiece that provides a lyrical depiction of the characters’ psychology and behavior.

1935년 11월 <조광(朝光)> 창간호에 발표된 주요섭의 단편이다. 여섯 살 여자아이의 시선으로 성인들의 사랑을 묘사하고 있다. 대중적으로 알려진 작가의 작품이며 인물의 심리와 행동을 서정적으로 묘사한 수작이라 평가된다.
