Kinoshida Hideyo, the manager of a light metals company and an undistinguished poet, considers it unfair that he is being discriminated against because he is Korean. When he visits his uncle's house in Cheongju, he happens to look at the genealogical record of the “Juksan Park clan” and learn about the language and history of Joseon. Coming to the realization that the official history he has learned is false, he begins to look for the history of Joseon. He meets Sogong, the chief priest of Seogwangsa Temple, who remembers the Korean language, and learns about Han Yong-un's Nimui chimmuk (Love’s Silence). Afterward, he realizes the inevitable reason for Joseon's independence and sets off in search of the Provisional Government of Korea in Shanghai, where the legacy of the Joseon Dynasty is maintained albeit only in name.
