This is a short story by Choi Myeongik, published in Jogwang in 1936. It juxtaposes  the protagonist who devotes himself to reading while searching for the meaning of life and an ordinary person who pursues worldly happiness. It is recognized for effectively depicting human psychology, such as expressing the protagonist’s lethargy through the rainy season.
