Plot

Cheon Il-ma loses his first love, Nam Mi-ryeo, to Yu Man-hae and heads to Harbin. In Harbin, he wins a lot of money from horse racing and marries Naaza, a Russian dancer. When Cheon Il-ma returns to Seoul, Yu Man-hae is bankrupt, and Nam Mi-ryeo courts Cheon Il-ma again, but Cheon Il-ma rejects her and protects his marriage to Naaza.

This is a novel, serialized in Maeil sinbo from January to July, 1940.  Centered on Cheon Il-ma’s love, the novel mainly describes the love and resulting behavior of various characters. It paints the general cultural landscape of the times, such as films, gold mines, lotteries, and horse racing.

1940년 1월부터 7월까지 <매일신보(每日新報)>에 연재된 장편소설이다. 천일마의 사랑을 중심으로 다양한 인물들의 애정행각을 다루고 있다. 영화, 금광, 복권, 경마 등 당시의 다양한 풍속도를 그려내고 있다.
