Plot

The narrator lives with his parents and older sister in a town located near the riverbank. With a railroad being constructed right next to their town, it will be demolished in the near future. The narrator’s father, who sold dogs for living, is found dead, and the family and their neighbors prepare his funeral, feeling afraid of the future.

1973년 <창작과 비평> 가을호에 발표한 조선작의 단편소설이다. 작품은 전철 유치를 위한 철도 공사 등 도시개발로 인해 밀려나고 소외된 사람들의 이야기를 다루고 있다.

This short story by Cho Sunjak was published in the 1973 fall issue of the literary magazine Creation and Criticism. In the story, the main character and his fellow townspeople are driven out of their homes due to the city’s development plan, which includes building a subway station.
