Plot

The narrator (oriental oak) is saved by Myeongdu-jip, and from then it watches the life of Myeongdu-jip. Myeongdu-jip, a famous shaman in the village, gives what people want when they come to her, regardless of their social status, and is respected as a spiritual leader of the people. Myeongdu-jip looks after all living things as though that were her fate, and when she passes away, the entire village is filled with grief.

This short story by Ku Hyoseo received the Hwang Sun-won Literary Award in 2006 and is included in his short story collection Jeonyeogi areumdaun jip (House with a Beautiful Evening), which was published in 2009. Through a personal tragedy, it reflects on death, maternal emotions, and fate, which is known to determine people’s life trajectory.

2006년 황순원문학상을 받은 구효서의 단편으로 2009년에 출간된 소설집<저녁이 아름다운 집>에 수록되어 있다. 개인의 비극을 통해 삶을 결정한다고 알려진 운명, 모성, 죽음등에 대한 성찰을 보여주고 있다.
