Plot

After conquering Nangnang with the help of Princess Nangnang who destroys Jamyeonggo, Prince Hodong feels guilty for Princess Nangnang’s death. Princess Nangnang's twin sister, the Queen, creates a play to comfort Prince Hodong. However, the Queen is shocked when she learns that Princess Nangnang destroyed Jamyeonggo because of Prince Hodong. Meanwhile, Hodong gets caught up in a royal power struggle and, during a shamanic ritual where a god named Jumong rules as a judge, Hodong is ordered to choose between Goguryeo and Nangnang. In a gesture of atonement for Princess Nangnang, Hodong chooses Nangnang and kills himself

This is a play by Choi In-hun, published in the summer issue of Segyeui munhak in 1978. It is based on the tale of Prince Hodong and Princess Nangnang, recorded in Samguk Sagi.  The play reproduces scenes of shamanic rituals (gut) in the form of ancient rituals, and also uses the techniques of a meta-drama and play-in-play. It depicts the conflict between romantic love and political choice.

1978년 <세계의 문학> 여름호에 발표된 최인훈의 희곡이다. <삼국사기>에 수록된 '호동왕자와 낙랑공주 설화'를 변형하여 창작되었다. 이 작품에는 고대국가의 제의를 활용한 굿장면이 재현되며 극중극 형식, 메타극 형식의 기법을 활용했다. 남녀간의 사랑과 정치적 선택 간의 갈등을 드러내는 작품이다.
