1991년 출간된 시인 류시화의 첫 번째 시집이다. 표제시인 <그대가 곁에 있어도 나는 그대가 그립다> 외에 60여편의 시가 수록되어 있다. 류시화는 일상 언어를 사용하면서도 신비로운 분위기를 시 세계를 빚어내며 삶의 무게를 잡아내 낯익음 속에 감추어진 낯설음을 발견하는 시인이라 평가된다. 그의 시는 현실 참여에 소극적이라는 이유로 문단으로부터 비판을 받기도 하지만 오히려 20여년 동안 그러한 시세계를 유지한다는 점에서 높은 평가를 받기도 한다. 이 시집은 한국에서 10년 동안 21번 베스트셀러에 올랐을 만큼 대중적인 사랑을 받았다.

This is the first collection of Ryu Sihwa’s poems, and published in 1991, it includes over 60 of his poems. By creating a world of mysticism through plain language, he has been recognized as a poet who brings out the weight of life in order to unveil a sense of estrangement in everyday life. Although he has been criticized in literary circles for his lack of critical views on social problems, his insistence on his poetic worldview for the past twenty years has been much praised. This collection especially has been appreciated and loved by readers, and it has been listed as a best seller more than twenty times.
