Publikace je prvním textem z pera současných literárních vědců Korejské republiky přeloženým z korejštiny do češtiny. Podle slov autorů je určena především širšímu okruhu laických čtenářů se zájmem o problematiku, příp. začínajícím studentům koreanistiky. Podává přehled hlavních směrů vývoje korejské klasické literatury od mýtů napříč spektrem jednotlivých žánrů (poezie, písňové formy, próza, zpěvohry pchansori, zčásti i literární kritika).
