    The theme of the 51st issue of Korean Literature Now (KLN), a literary journal produced and distributed to introduce Korean literature and writers to the general public and experts abroad and form a discourse on Korean literature, is “disaster.” This is an excerpt from “Here, We Are Face to Face” by author Choi Eunmi, which is one of the works of Korean literature on disasters.

    A total of 33 participating writers (17 from Korea and 16 from abroad) of the 2021 2021 Seoul International Writers’ Festival read selected excerpts from their own works. The 8 videos are divided into 5 novel readings and 3 poetry readings. From Korea, Jaesik Kwak, Kim Kichang, Kim Soom, Kim Yeonsu, Kim Jung Mi, Yun Ko-eun, Lee Miye, Yi Hyunseok, Lee hee young, Ch’oe Yun, Choi Jin-Young, Han Kang, Koh Jaejong, Sin Yongmok, An Hee-Yeon, Yu Gyeyoung, Lee Soyoun took part with their international counterparts, including Ge Shuiping, David Grossman, Mariana Enriquez, Maja Lunde, Max Porter, Matt Ruff, Vanessa Springora, Siri Ranva Hjelm Jacobsen, Evgeny Vodolazkin, Ken Liu, Trent Dalton, Nouri Al-Jarrah, Rim Battal, Seán Hewitt, Amanda Chong, Jan Wagner.

The five sessions in 2021 were Body Signals (participants: Yi Hyunseok, Amanda Chong), Breaking Boundaries (participants: Yun Ko-eun, Lee Miye, Matt Ruff, Evgeny Vodolazkin), Warmth of Poetry (participants: An Hee-Yeon, Yu Gyeyoung, Rim Battal, Seán Hewitt), Dear Masters of the Future (participants: Kim Jung Mi, Lee hee young, Maja Lunde, Trent Dalton), and Please Look After Earth (participants: Kim Kichang, Lee Soyoun, Ge Shuiping, Siri Ranva Hjelm Jacobsen). The video were produced in collaboration with Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS).

    The theme of _List Vol. 12 is “The New Imagination Trends in Modern Korean Fiction.” Under the four subthemes “Korean history and fiction after 1987,” “from politics to ethics,” “experimenting with the imagination,” and “popular culture connects with literature,” this issue introduces 13 contemporary Korean writers (Jeong Yi Hyun, Kim Ae-ran, Jeong Seong-tae, Kim Yeonsu, Hwang Jungeun, Kim Taeyong, Pyun Hye Young, Yun Ko Eun, Han Yujoo, Kim Young-ha, Park Min-gyu, Kim Kyung-uk, and Kim Junghyuk). This is a review of the Polish translation of Yun Ko-eun’s The Disaster Tourist.
