南原退妓月梅之女春香清明游春于广寒楼，巧遇两班之子李梦龙，二人相互倾慕，私自结为夫妇。李梦龙之父不久调任京师，春香和梦龙不得不依依惜别。新任南原使道卞学道到任后强迫春香为其守厅，春吞不从，被迫下狱。李梦龙在京应试中举，任全罗御使，暗察南原，将卞学道革职惩处。春吞、梦龙重获团圆，共赴京师。
