2014 London Book Fair: Author Hwang Sun-mi Introductory BookletEnglish(English)

This is an introductory booklet on children’s author Hwang Sun-mi, produced for the 2014 London Book Fair Korea Market Focus. On April 6, Hwang Sun-mi participated in a literary event at the Cambridge Literature Festival, where she discussed her literature and creative world with a focus on The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly. She was selected as Author of the Day at the 2014 London Book Fair, and talked about how her writing was related to Korean society (April 9, PEN Salon). On April 10, she participated in the literary seminar titled “Adaptations: From Page to Screen” (PEN Salon, Earls Court Exhibition Centre), where she discussed screen adaptations of Korean novels and webtoons. This 20-page booklet consists of: “About the Author”, “About the Work” and “Excerpts”. The excerpts are taken from Miracle on Cherry Hill and The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly.

The theme of _List Vol. 3 is “Korean Picture Books.” It introduces contemporary picture books, traditional Korean picture books, ecological picture books, nonfiction picture books, and picture books with unique points of view. In addition, this issue features interviews with writers Hwang Sun-mi and Lee Chulsoo, Korean publishing trends, coverage of the acceptance of Korean literature overseas, a spotlight on a literary site, book reviews of fiction/nonfiction/children’s literature and introduces steady sellers, publishers, and trends in Korean literature to overseas readers.

2022 Korean Literature Global Review Contest: Promotional VideoEnglish(English)

The 2022 Korean Literature Global Review Contest was held from June 20 (Mon) to September 15 (Fri), 2022, for non-Korean readers. The contest consisted of three categories (book report, drawing, and video). The languages designated for the book report category were English, French, and Spanish; for the drawing and video categories, all languages except Korean. Five books that had been translated into multiple languages were chosen to be reviewed—Kim Un-su’s The Plotters, Sohn Won-pyung’s Almond, Hwang Sun-mi’s The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly, Jeong You Jeong’s The Good Son, and Cho Nam-ju’s Kim Ji-young, Born 1982. A total of 13 countries participated in the contest, and over 1,100 entries were submitted, which reflected the huge interest of foreign readers in Korean literature. This is a one-minute-eight-second-long promotional video for the 2022 Korean Literature Global Review Contest, featuring the popular K-Pop group VICTON, that shows the charm of Korean literature to the fans of the Korean Wave.
