An introductory volume for the Korean mask dance. In this book, the author's prime object is to relieve the mask dance from the tarnished reputation it suffers as a strange performance for curious onlookers and to show that it deserves proper understanding like other traditional 

art forms. In order to achieve this goal, the author examines its origin, and several phases of its development discussing the principles of the mask dance under the rules and the conventions of drama.
