2019년에 출간된 제43회 이상문학상작품집이다. 표제작인 윤이형의 <그들의 첫 번째와 두 번째 고양이>가 대상을 수상했다. 작품집에는 대상작 외에 <해변의 묘지>(김희선), <울어본다>(장은진), <일 년>(최은영)등 우수작 5편이 수록되어 있다. 윤이형의 단편은 집에서 키우던 고양이의 죽음을 통해 현대사회에서 사람들이 경험하는 단절과 고립, 고독을 묘파해내고 동시에 결혼제도와 부모와의 관계를 비판적으로 돌아보고 있다.

This collection features six short stories that were shortlisted for or won the Yi Sang Literary Award in 2019. It includes the works “Cemetery on the Beach” by Kim Heesun, “I Try Crying” by Jang Eun-Jin, and “One Year” by Choi Eunyoung, as well as the grand prize-winning short story, “Their First and Second Cats” by Yun I-Hyeong, which explores, through the death of a pet cat, the isolation, loneliness, and lack of connection experienced by people in modern society. The short story also provides a critical look at the institution of marriage and one’s relationship with one’s parents.
