Plot

An aspiring poet who has finished studying in Tokyo, the first-person narrator laments that he cannot meet the expectations of his family. For his family, he sells his poetry book manuscripts at a much lower price and borrows money from his friends, but his family has no future. He wakes up from a dream about being caught by the police while committing a robbery.

This is a short story published in Gaebyeok in 1925. The first short story by Cho Myung-hee, it depicts the disillusionment of intellectuals with their family life and hardships, and the harsh reality of colonialism.

1925년 <개벽>에 발표된 단편소설이다. 조명희의 첫번째 단편소설이다. 지식인의 가정생활과 생활고에 대한 환멸을 묘사한 소설로, 식민지의 가혹한 현실을 묘사한다.
