Plot

Hyeong-il’s father, one of the leaders of the March 1st Movement, now dedicates his life to the armed struggle against colonial Japan. Japanese soldiers are on the lookout for Hyeong-il’s father, seeking to arrest him, but he has fled to Buggando to evade the Japanese police and is fighting for independence there. As Hyeong-il learns of the armed struggle in Yongjeong, and the activities of the Bukrogunjeongseo, an armed independence movement group based in the North, he begins to grasp what it means to have a Joseon identity.

1983년에 출간된 박홍근의 장편소설이다. 작품은 1920년대 항일무장투쟁을 했던 독립군 가족의 이야기다. 작가는 주인공 가족을 통해 북로군정서의 독립군의 활약과 용정의 항일무장투쟁 등 독립운동을 위해 가족과 헤어져 힘겨운 싸움을 이어나갔던 민족의 역사를 보여주고 있다.

This novel by Pak Honggeun was published in 1983. It tells the story of a family of independence activists who engage in armed struggle against the Japanese colonial forces in the 1920s. Through his depiction of a family separated by their fight for independence, the author provides a history of the Korean people, retold in terms of the hardship they suffered and the sacrifices they made in their difficult struggle against colonial Japan. The book makes mention of historical events, such as the armed struggle in Yongjeong and the resistance activities of the Kando-based Bukrogunjeongseo.
