Plot

Set in the period from the 1930s to 1954, the novel depicts the chaotic lives of Ha Yeounggeun, a landowner who is brought to ruin; Kim Gyeongju, an intellectual who plays a role in Ha’s downfall; and Ha Jungyu, who turns skeptical after participating in leftist movements.

1972년9월부터 1978년 8월까지 잡지<세대>에 연재했던 이병주의 장편소설이다. 1978년 전체 8권으로 출간하였다. 작품은 1930년대부터 한국전쟁 직후를 배경으로 전통적인 지주, 사회의 새로운 세력으로 떠오른 지식인 그리고 좌익운동에 참여했다가 회의주의자가 된 인물들을 통해 혼란스러운 현실을 그려내고 있다.

Jirisan Mountain is a novel by Lee Byengju that was first serialized in the magazine Generation from September 1972 to August 1978, and was later published in eight volumes in 1978. Set in the period from the 1930s until immediately after the Korean War, the novel depicts a society in upheaval, portraying traditional landowners, intellectuals who emerge as a new force in society, and leftist activists-turned-skeptics.
