1988년에 첫 출간된 김혜순 시인의 세 번째 시집이다. 표제작인 <어느 별의 지옥>을 포함하여 51편의 시가 4부로 나뉘어 수록되어 있다. 시인은 1980년대의 한국 사회를 '어느 별의 지옥'이라 일컬으며 폭력적인 분위기 속에서 웅크려야만 했던 시절을 떠올린다. 시인이 발붙인 영토에서는 주체적 언어를 쓸 수 없다는 깨달음은 그녀로 하여금 미지의 영토를 찾고, 그 영토 속에서 새로운 언어를 시로 형상화하도록 만든다.

Published in 1988, this is the third collection of Kim Hyesoon’s poems. Divided into four parts, the collection includes 51 of her poems including the title poem “The Hell of a Certain Star.” In these poems, the poet brings back the Korean society of the 1980s when people were subjected to oppression and violence. Realizing that she cannot write in the land where she belongs, she embarks on a journey to an unknown place where she becomes liberated and empowered to write again.
