Plot

Arpan is from the Waka tribe who live in the high mountains on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. He is the only person who writes in Waka, and he enjoys writing. On the other hand, the narrator has published his debut work but is depressed with no other literary achievements. Then he plagiarizes Arpan's work, publishes it, and receives favorable response from the literary circle. Having received good reviews from the public and the literary circle, the narrator invites Arpan to the “Third World Writers' Festival” to redeem the guilt he feels toward Arpan, but the readers’ reacts with cold indifference to Arpan.

This is a short story from Park Hyoung su's short story collection Krabi, published in 2014. It is also the second work in ASIA Publishers’ K-Fiction series. The author’s introspection on the self-consciousness of writing, the essence of art and literature, and the boundary between the original and the copy stand out in particular. The relationship between the literary circle and one’s awareness as a writer, as well as the ethics of writing are revealed through well-structured narratives in this short story.
