1957년에 발표한 윤세중의 장편소설이다. 작품은 철 생산을 위한 노동계급과 지식인의 투쟁을 그리고 있다. 전쟁 중에 파괴된 제철공장을 복구하는 과정을 통해 낡은 것과 새 것의 투쟁에서 새 것이 승리할 수 밖에 없음을 선언하고 있다. 특히 전후 복귀과정에서 노동자와 지식인의 연대를 잘 그려내었다는 평가를 받는다.

Published in 1957, this novel by Yoon Se-jung tells the story of people trying to rebuild a steel factory which was destroyed during the war, and the writer delivers a clear message that people must rebuild the country from rubble in order to usher in a new era.  Critics have praised this novel for its depiction of the solidarity between people from the working class and intellectuals after the war.
