- The Shinchon massacre in Hwanghae Province, North Korea, in 1950
Yosop, who has been serving as a pastor in the United States, has the opportunity to visit his hometown in North Korea after 40 years since the division of the Korean Peninsula. Yosop meets his relatives still living in his hometown, and remembers the events of the time he left his homeland. In his hometown of Shinchon, Yosop’s family was landowner and Christian. However, after Korea’s liberation from the Japanese rule, the socialist regime came into power, and Yosop's family became a target of oppression. Later, when the Korean War broke out and Shinchon had fallen into temporary anarchy due to the intervention of the US military, the Christian forces mercilessly massacred the socialists. When the Chinese army intervened again, the Christian forces left Shinchon with the Americans, and Yosop's family immigrated to the United States.
