1951년 <경향신문> 문예작품 공모에 당선된 안동민의 장편소설로 작가의 둥단작품이다. 이후 1957년 안동민 제1창작집 <성화聖火>로 출간되었다. 휴머니즘을 바탕으로 한 사실적인 세계를 작품의 주요한 경향으로 삼는다는 평가를 받았다.

Ahn Dong-min made his debut with this novel when it was published in the Kyunghyang Shinmun in 1951; later it was included in the first volume of his works which was published in 1957. Critics describe him as a writer of realism with an interest in humanism.
