Plot

Chae Sun-hui, a factory worker who became a singer in an art troupe, decides to divorce her husband and files a lawsuit. However, the judge, Jeong Jin-u, persuades her to dismiss the suit, saying that divorce is not easy. However, she does not give in, saying that she cannot maintain a normal marriage because her husband despises her. Jeong Jin-u meets with the people around Chae Sun-hui to check the facts.

Baek Namyong's novel, which was published in a North Korean literary journal in 1988 and gained great popularity, was published in South Korea in 2018. Before its publication in South Korea, the novel had been translated into French in 2011 and became a huge hit. Through a divorce lawsuit filed by a female singer from a North Korean art troupe against her husband, it realistically depicts love, divorce, and marital problems in North Korea. It is a representative North Korean novel that breaks the prejudice against North Korea and reveals North Korea that people had been unaware of.

1988년 북한의 문예지에 발표되어 큰 인기를 얻는 백남룡의 장편소설을 2018년에 한국에서 출간한 것이다. 한편 이 소설은 2011년 프랑스어로 번역되어 관심을 모았고 큰 인기를 끌었다. 북한 예술단의 여가수가 남편을 상대한 제기한 이혼소송을 통해 북한의 사랑과 이혼, 부부문제 등을 현실적으로 그려내었다. 북한에 대한 편견을 깨고 몰랐던 북한을 알게 한 대표적인 북한소설이라고 할 수 있다.
