This is an introductory booklet on Ko Un, produced for the 2005 Frankfurt Book Fair, where Korea participated as the Guest of Honor for the first time and hosted the Korean Literature Tour Program. The author was one of the 62 delegates selected by LTI Korea’s Delegation Selection Committee on the basis of the following criteria: representativeness, existing publications of translated works, and overseas marketability. The entire literature program was co-organized by the LTI Korea, the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, Daesan Cultural Foundation, Paradise Cultural Foundation and the International Communication Foundation (ICF). The events started at the Leipzig Book Fair in March and finished with the Guest of Honor Program in October. Ko Un participated in the main program in October and special events in March, September and October. This 21-page booklet consists of: ‘Author’s Literary World’, ‘Poetry Excerpts’, ‘Voices of the Author and Critics’, ‘Biography’ and ‘Bibliography’. The material was put together and analyzed by the literary critic Yoo Sung-ho, and translated by Han Jung-hwa. The photographs were taken by Han Young-hee. The booklet contain eight poems including “Time with Dead Poets” translated into German. Ko Un participated in literary events in Yena, Leipzig (March), Düsseldorf (September), Berlin (October), and then at Frankfurt House of Literature, Museum Angewandte Kunst and Cologne House of Literature as part of the main program in October. As one of the 12 Masters of Korean Literature, he was introduced at the Frankfurt Book Fair Korean Pavilion—with a large photograph and a list of his major works and translated titles. Several of his works have been published in German including: Stars of Homeland (1996), the Zen poetry collection What Is It? (2005), Waking Up (2007) and Flower of the Moment (2011).

The German translation of I Have the Right to Destroy Myself (German title: Sterbehelfer) was published in Germany in 2013.

Kim Hoon’s literary event was held at Basel House of Literature in Switzerland in September. His work ‘Cremation’ is included in the short story collection Acht Leben (2015) published in German by the Austrian publisher Septime.

As one of the 12 Masters of Korean Literature, he was introduced at the Frankfurt Book Fair Korean Pavilion—with a large photograph and a list of his major works and translated titles. The German translation of his work Mr. Han’s Chronicle was published by dtv in 2005.
