Plot

Insil loses her parents during the Korean War and is raised by a couple. However, after being raped by her uncle and receiving an unwanted marriage proposal from the landlord’s son, she leaves home and head to her childhood hometown. Her misfortunes continue, as she is forcibly detained at a prayer center, works at a factory and then at a bar in the US military base. Insil marries Hong Hyeong-tae, whom she meets at the bar in the US military base, but he is arrested on the suspicion of receiving spy training. After her husband is arrested, Insil has an affair with her husband's friend and feels guilty about it.

This is a series of short stories published in Hanguk munhak, Segyeui munhak, Munhaksasang, and Soseolmunhak in September 1985. It consists of 86 episodes and features over 30 characters. Each episode has an organic relationship with the whole story, and at the same time, each has a unique compositional method that fallows them to function as an independent story.
