Plot

Eunseo loves Wan, and Se loves Eunseo. Eunseo tells Se about the pain she feels from Wan, who ignores her. Eunseo, Se, and Wan reveal their desires to possess one another and become obsessed with each other. Although connected by fate, the three characters are out of step with one another and betray each other’s expectations. The three of them grow miserable because of love.

This is the first novel by Shin Kyung-sook, published in 1994. It tells the story of the love among three characters: Eunseo, Wan, and Se. The internal pain that these three characters experience as their relationship  told with delicately constructed sentences that arouse deep and intense emotions.

1994년에 출간된 신경숙의 첫 장편소설이다. 이 작품은 '은서'와 '완', '세', 세 사람의 사랑을 다룬다. 세 사람이 어긋나면서 통과하는 내면의 고통을 섬세한 필치로 묘사하여 진하고 깊은 감동을 불러일으킨다.
