Jeong Chan-u suffers from the guilt of having accidentally shot a woman as a member of the militia during the Gwangju Uprising in the past. He loved Mi-seon, but Mi-seon had to give up on her life to take care of her mentally disabled older sister, Yeong-seon. After being raped by the soldiers of the Airborne Division during the Gwangju Uprising, Yeong-seon suffers from mental illness and ends up committing suicide. Meanwhile, Chan-u learns that Kim Seong-bo, an officer of the Airborne Division during the Gwangju Uprising, drowned in the sea. The story ends with the marriage between Kim Seong-bo, the perpetrator of the Gwangju Uprising, and Yeong-seon, the victim, through a soul wedding.
