Ce roman est paru une première fois chez Actes Sud en 1993 sous le titre « Le Piquet de ma Mère » (Actes Sud, 1993, traduction de Kang Geobae). Depuis, avec les rééditions, le texte initial a été augmenté d’une suite, pour paraître aujourd’hui en trois parties, dans une nouvelle traduction de Patrick Maurus et Mun Shi Yeun, et prendre un pluriel en titre : Les piquets de ma mère, (ce qui ne change rien au titre, la langue coréenne ignorant, la plupart du temps, la distinction singulier-pluriel).
