移居美国五年的刘约瑟牧师决定参加故乡访问团回朝鲜。在他启程的两天前，大哥突然撒手人寰，随之他被莫明的梦境和幻影困扰。怀揣大哥的一片遗骨，身伴大哥的幽灵，惶悚不安的约瑟踏上了故乡的寻梦之路。在那里，沉痛的回忆一路相随，约瑟见到了大哥亲人，参观了“屠杀博物馆”，听取了生存者的血泪控诉。那里，依然保存着韩国战争时期美帝国主义肆意操纵的良民大屠杀的痕迹。回想起被当时右翼基督教势力利用的大哥参与了当时美军登陆仁川后的四十五天里所发生的惨无人道的民众相互残杀事件，约瑟老泪纵横，感慨不已。
