Plot

The residents of Naseong Inn include all sorts of people: workers in their 40s, displaced persons, students retaking their college entrance exams, former student activists, Uyeon, his parents, and his older sister. They all lead miserable lives.

1990년에 출간된 양귀자의 장편소설이다. 출간당시 제목은 <잘가라, 밤이여>였고 다음해 <희망>으로 제목을 바꾸어 재출간했다. 작품은 황량한 현실과 가난한 시대의 모습을 작가의 고유한 시선인 연민과 따뜻함으로 그리고 있다. 작가는 아무것도 없는 사람들이 서로 연대하여 그들의 삶을 지속하고 있음을 긍정적인 시각으로 보여주고 있다.

This novel by Yang Gui-ja was initially published in 1990 under the title Goodbye, Good Night, and it was retitled Hope in the following year. With compassion and warmth, the author provides a unique perspective on the bleak realities of people living in poverty. The author shows in a positive way that people who have nothing continue their lives in solidarity with each other.
