1963년 <경향신문>에 연재했던 이어령의 에세이를 40년 만에 개정증보하여 1996년 출간한 것이다. 한국의 문화를 분석한 글들로 구성된 에세이는 '한국문화론'이 시작된 저작이라고 할 수 있다.

This revised edition of essays by Lee O-Young was published in 1996, 40 years after they were first serialized in Kyunghyang Shinmun in 1963. Offering an analysis of Korean culture, the essays inaugurated Korean cultural theory.
