Plot

After his wife dies from a brain tumor, the narrator prepares for her funeral with a heavy heart. At the same time, he carries out orders from the advertising firm where he works as an executive. He mourns for his wife, but his heart belongs to another woman.

2006년에 출간된 김 훈의 소설집<강산문진>에 수록되어 있는 단편소설이다. 2014년제28회 이상문학상 대상수상작이다. 병으로 세상을 떠난 아내를 애도하며 장례를 치르면서 한편으로는 사랑하는 다른 여인을 가슴에 믇어놓고 있는 중년의 주인공을 통해 삶의 모순을 섬세하게 그려내고 있다. 2014년에 동명의 제목으로 영화로 만들어졌다.

This short story by Kim Hoon was published in 2006 in the author’s short story collection Kangsan Paperback. It won the Yi Sang Literary Award Grand Prize in 2014. With delicate prose, the story depicts the inner contradictions of a middle-aged protagonist who holds a funeral for his wife while in love with another woman. It was adapted into a film in 2014.
