Plot

A member of XX Club, the narrator came to Gando five years ago and did all kinds of work to feed his family. But he has failed in every venture, and he is oppressed by people around him. As he looks for the reasons for his poverty despite working hard, he resolves not to hold himself back anymore.

This is a short story by Choi Seohae, published in Joseon mundane in March 1925. Reflecting the author’s own experiences, it shows the process in which the protagonist comes to realize that the hardships he experienced as a Korean man at the time is not a personal but a social problem.
