Plot

Now the president of a medium-sized company, Kang Dongho used to be a detective in the intelligence department thirty years ago. He pays a visit to Bae Seungtae, an armed North Korean agent he had investigated in the past. For the past thirty years, ever since they first met as agent and detective, the two have maintained a relationship of conflict and reconciliation. The two discuss the state of affairs between the two Koreas.

2003년에 출간된 김용만의 장편소설이다. 1989년 작가의 등단작인<은장도>(<현대문학>)를 개작한 것이다. 작품은 남파된 무장 공작원과 형사를 통해 분단으로 인한 한국사회의 이념 갈등과 화해를 보여주고 있다.

This novel by Kim Yong-Man was published in 2003. It is a revised version of the author’s literary debut Ornamental Silver Knife, which was published in Modern Literature in 1989. A story about a detective and an armed agent sent from North Korea, the novel depicts the ideological conflicts caused by the division of the Korean peninsula, as well as the possibility of reconciliation.
