The Tale of Cho Ung is a classic Joseon-era heroic novel of unknown authorship. Various copies have survived in manuscript form, including handwritten scripts. As it features a military hero, the novel is also referred to as The Tale of Cho Wonsoo. The work follows a narrative structure typical of heroic novels, but unlike other works, where the protagonist acquires his powers, The Tale of Cho Ung is distinctive in that Cho Ung becomes a hero with the assistance of those who support him.

조선시대 작가미상의 고전소설이다. 국문 필사본이 전해져 있고, 군담(軍談)소설으로 <조원수전>으로 불리기도 한다. 작품은 일반적인 영웅서사의 전개를 따르고 있지만 다른 작품들이 영웅이 후천적으로 얻은 힘을 발휘하는 것과 달리 이 작품은 조력자의 초인적인 힘을 통해 영웅이 된다는 점에서 특징적이다.
