Plot

The narrator wanders around San Francisco, doing nothing, with his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend. The narrator sees many people, parks, and famous tourist destinations while traveling in the unfamiliar city, but what is important to him is not real people and spaces, but his sense of them. He sees reality at the boundary of his inner self and imagination, and believes that is his world.

This is a novel by Jung Young Moon, published in 2011. It won the 43rd Kim Dong-in Literary Award in 2012. Although the work does not have a clear narrative, it describes the experiences of the protagonist during his stay in San Francisco from a different perspective, rather than the way they were experienced. It embodies the author’s clear intention not to accept the real world only as he experienced it.

2011년에 출간된 정영문의 장편소설이다. 2012년 제43회 김동인문학상 수상작이기도 하다. 작품은 뚜렷한 서사는 없지만 주인공이 샌프란시스코에 체류하면서 경험한 것들을 경험한 그대로가 아닌, 다른 시각으로 기술한 것이다.  현실세계를 경험한대로만 받아들이지 않겠다는 작가의 의도가 뚜렷한 작품이다.
