Plot

Leo gets on a plane to Africa via Thailand. When he lands in Thailand, he happens to meet Ploy at a place called “Nana.” Ploy travels around Thailand with Leo, who has to catch a plane. Meanwhile, Leo learns that Ploy is a famous prostitute in Thailand and that “Nana” Station where he met her was on the street for prostitutes in Thailand. The two share each other’s wounds and meets various people. Through this unexpected, short trip, Leo takes a look at the life of a prostitute, which he had thought was wretched and miserable, and comes to the conclusion that everyone's life is similar to that of a prostitute.

This is a novel by Park Hyoung su, published in 2010, whose first four installments were originally serialized from the spring to the winter issues of the  quarterly Munhakgwa sahoe (Literature and Society) in 2009. In the same year, it won the 18th Daesan Literary Award. The novel tells the story of a man and a woman, who meet by chance, facing each other's wounds and sharing the meaning of life. In particular, the author turns his gaze outside the realm of daily life of the two main characters and tells the stories of people in various and complex relationships. Rather than providing a single and linear worldview, he tries to understand the world through the various people who coexist in the world.

2009년 계간지 <문학과 사회>봄호부터 겨울호까지 4회 연재했던 작품을 2010년에 출간한 박형서의 장편소설이다. 같은 해 제18회 대산문학상을 수상했다. 소설은 우연한 계기로 만난 남녀가 서로의 상처를 마주하고 삶의 의미를 공유해 가는 이야기다. 특히 작가는 주인공인 두 사람의 일상의 범주 밖으로 시선을 돌려 다양하고 복잡한 관계에 놓인 사람들의 이야기를 함께 들려준다. 단일하고 직선적인 세계관이 아니라 복합적으로 공존하는 사람들을 통해 세계에 대한 이해를 시도하고 있다.
