2008년에 출간된 김중혁의 소설집<악기들의 도서관>에 수록된 단편소설이다. 작품은 가난한 일상에서 경험하는 비의를 그리고 있다. 이 작품은 고(故)김소진의 단편<고아떤 뺑덕어멈>(1995)을 리믹스한 것으로, 구멍가게를 하는 엄마, 가난, 일상 등의 기존 모티프를 새롭게 다양한 맥락으로 이용하고 해석하여 작가의 세계에 녹여놓았다.

This short story by Kim Jung-hyuk is included in his collection of short stories titled The Library of Musical Instruments, which was published in 2008. This short story about the tragic life of poverty was inspired by Kim So-jin’s short story titled “Madam Ppaengdeok Who Used to Be Pretty,” but Kim Jung-hyuk retells it with a mother character who struggles with poverty as she runs a small corner shop.
