Plot

After numerous brushes with death, Bongsu goes to find his beloved Jeongsun, only to find out that she is already married to Sangho. Bongsu still proposes to Jeongsun, but she refuses him. Angered by her refusal, Bongsu impulsively rapes and murders Yeongsuk.

This is a short story by Kim Dongri, published in Hyundae Munhak in October 1966. Written as a frame story, it tackles the issue of eros as a fundamental human contradiction and the fear of death gained from the war experience.

1966년10월<현대문학>에 발표한 김동리의 단편이다. 액자소설의 형식을 취한 작품으로 인간의 근본적인 모순으로서의 에로스와 전쟁 경험을 통해 얻게 된 죽음의 공포를 다루고 있다.
