Haesoon, a haenyeo, loses her husband and lives with her mother-in-law and brother-in-law, making a living by diving. She marries Sangsu later and leaves her hometown, but when Sangsu is conscripted and she doesn’t hear from him, she returns to her hometown.

This is a story of a woman who loses her husband in an accident at sea, remarries and leaves her hometown, but returns to her hometown by the sea when she once again becomes alone. This novel brings to the surface the tragedy women experienced in the Korean War and the wish to return home.

바다에서 사고로 남편을 잃은 여성이 재혼하여 고향을 떠나지만, 홀로 남겨지자 다시 고향의 바닷가로 되돌아온다는 이야기로, 한국전쟁이 여성에게 끼친 비극과 회귀의식을 형상화한 작품이다.
