This is the first novel that embodies the struggles and protests of workers after Korea’s liberation from the Japanese rule. It was praised for conveying the theme through its individual and three-dimensional characters and a meticulous plot.

1971년 <창작과 비평> 봄호에 발표한 황석영의 단편소설이다. 해방 이후의 노동자의 쟁의와 그 과정을 소설로 핍진하게 형상화한 최초의 작품이다. 특히 개성적이고 입체적인 인물들과 치밀한 플롯으로 작품이 전달하려는 주제를 잘 드러내었다는 평가를 받았다.
