朝鲜王朝第4代国王世宗大王创制了适合标记本国语文的文字，并将其命名为“训民正音”。世宗大王命郑麟趾等人编写并刊行了解释“训民正音”这一新文字的汉文说明书。全书1册33张，书名为《训民正音》。因为是对新文字的解释说明，所以此书又被称为《训民正音》解例本。《训民正音》中详细记录了新文字的创制原理以及新文字的使用方法。这种优秀的新文字体系得到了世界语言学者的高度评价，并被指定为联合国世界文化遗产。《训民正音》可以说是跨越国界的人类文化遗产。
